Kejriwal prepares a ‘black paper’
As the Maharashtra government finally came out with the whitepaper on the irrigation projects in the state over the past decade, the Aam Aadmi Party, led by Arvind Kejriwal, has prepared a “black paper” on irrigation. Mr Kejriwal will release it on December 2 in Raigad district, which is the political stronghold of irrigation minister Sunil Tatkare.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the AAP said that its “black paper” illustrates what a genuine whitepaper on irrigation should have ideally been and the issues that really ought to have been addressed, it said.
“This black paper exposes the farcical exercise of the WRD’s whitepaper and proves how bogus an attempt of face-saving it is, largely on account of coalition political compulsions,” it said.
According to the AAP, the blackpaper has been prepared after studying and analysing data from various sources such as the water resources department, Central Water Commission, Directorate of Economics & Statistics, government of Maharashtra and National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development. The findings show that the WRD’s tall claims about the area brought under irrigation are manipulative and entirely contradictory.
