Kerala, Denmark nurse hopes on industrial ties
Even as diplomatic relations between India and Denmark worsens, Kerala and Denmark keep their hopes high on strengthening the industrial relations between the two sides.
Invest in Denmark, an agency to promote investments into the European country, has conducted various roadshows in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi and is planning to take part in the upcoming Emerging Kerala meet.
New Delhi on Thursday decided to scale down India’s diplomatic relations with Denmark following the refusal of the Danish authorities to appeal a lower court order against extradition of Kim Davy in connection with the long-pending Purulia arms drops case.
Shanker Subramaniam, senior investment manager with Invest in Denmark, said issues apart, the next road shows projecting the investment opportunities in Denmark would be held in Kerala in August and December. “As of now, some IT companies in Kerala have started exploring the opportunities to invest in Denmmark,” he told DC over phone.
Former diplomat T.P. Sreenivasan said diplomatic issues were unlikely to affect investment relations between the countries.
A delegation representing the state government and the Group of Technology Companies in the state visited Denmark last year exploring investment opportunities.
“So far, we do not have any indication of a worsening of relations between India and Denmark. However, we hope that unless the diplomatic row snowballs into a major issue, there won’t be much problem,” said Kerala IT principal secretary P.H. Kurian.
