Kerala school allows kids to sport soccer jerseys.. IN CLASS
Every day as Euro 2012 matches kick off, about 100 students gather to watch the game on a screen set up at the Mappila UP School in Areekode in Kerala's Malappuram district.
But, the story does not end there.
The school has allowed students to wear jerseys of their favourite country, or club, IN CLASS!
“We allowed the students to come to the school wearing their favourite jerseys for the first four days of Euro Cup. This was the part of our Euro Cup celebrations. It was a nice sight to see about 500 students including girls in football jerseys,” says teacher C. Rafeeque, who also conducts a football camp at the school.
The school, in football-crazy Malappuram, is also one of the major centres for the sport in the district.
Currently, two students from the school are with the Indian Under-14 camp playing in the United States. 'Football alumni' include famous names such as MP Sakeer of the Churchill Brothers.
And there's also a lot more for these lucky tots.
"We also conducted several competitions including a football quiz and matches for children on the opening day of the Euro Cup,” adds teacher A.M. Habeebullas.
