Key 2008 Assam serial blasts accused arrested
A top NDFB leader, key accused in the 2008 Assam serial blasts, has been arrested in Mizoram capital Aizawl after he entered the country from Bangladesh, an Assam Rifles official said.
B. Jwangkhang, alias George Boro, deputy commander-in- chief of the banned Bodo group, was nabbed by a joint team of Assam Rifles and police on Friday night from a hotel room in Aizawl, a spokesperson at the Assam Rifles headquarters here told PTI today.
Jwangkhang was being tracked for the last few days after he entered India from Bangladesh, the spokesperson said. Jwangkhang's PSO was also arrested. A CBI official, who is in the team investigating the serial blasts, said that the NDFB rebel was the kingpin of the Guwahati blasts.
A red-corner notice was issued against him after CBI issued a chargesheet, the official said. "Jwangkhang had carried out the blasts at the behest of NDFB chief Ranjan Daimary, who is now in jail," the official said. At least 88 people were killed in nine serial blasts across Assam, including three in Guwahati, on October 30, 2008.
