Khap groups extend deadline by 3 days
The Sarv Khap Mahapanchayat, a conglomerate of various khaps, on Thursday decided to extend the deadline of their agitation by three days to the state government for inclusion of jats in the Central OBC list.
The conglomerate, which met at Hansi in Hisar district on Thursday, threatened to start a statewide stir in case the state government fails to act on their demands.
According to the president of khap mahapanchyat Nafe Singh Nain the khap served an ultimatum to the government to accept the demand of All-India Jat Aarakshan Samiti, which is spearheading the movement.
We have given three days time to the government to act on our demands. Apart from the inclusion of jats in the central OBC list, we want the government to withdraw the cases against the members of our community against whom cases were registered during the last year’ agitation, Mr Singh said.
Meanwhile, the traffic on Hisar-Bhiwani track continued to remain disrupted for the 12th day on Thursday as the railway authorities have suspended some trains as a precautionary measure.
Earlier, Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda had urged the jat community to exercise restraint and wait for the report of a government panel that was constituted to look into the issue.
It is worth mentioning that the state government has constituted a backward classes commission to find out communities which can come under the OBC category. The report of the commission is expected to come out soon.
However, the Jats are now adamant that they should be bestowed with the OBC quota in government jobs immediately.
