Killed jawan planned to blast cash van: Cops
The police on Tuesday identified as an Army jawan the youth who was killed when a crude bomb exploded outside a teashop on Monday evening.
He was reportedly carrying the bomb in his motorcycle to steal cash after blasting a bank van.
Around 6.30 pm, two youths arrived at the Krishna tea stall in Oothangarai. After having tea, while one of them walked away to check out something, the other was killed in the blast.
The Krishnagiri police who came to know on Monday that the bike they rode was a stolen vehicle, unveiled more startling details on Tuesday.
They found that the dead jawan, Sakthivel (24), had joined the army four years back as a carpenter by producing fake documents in the name of Sreenivasan. He was posted at Arunachal Pradesh, the police said.
Returning home for a holiday, Sakthivel teamed up with Ramamurthy of the same area and planned to rob a bank van carrying cash for ATM machines in Krishnagiri.
“The two prepared a crude explosive with a remote control and were on way to blast the van that was expected to arrive at Oothangarai around 7 pm,” the police added.
While waiting for the van, they went to have tea. Ramamurthy then walked away to see if the van was coming.
“Sakthivel was paying tea shop-owner Gandalakshmi when he accidently pressed the remote control, igniting the explosive,” the police explained.
While Sakthivel’s body was blown to pieces, Ramamurthy fled.
Police found out about their plot after nabbing Ramamurthy.
They also recovered several crude bombs, detonators and explosives from Sakthivel’s home.
Further investigations are on.
