Kiran Cabinet still a mystery
The contents of the chief minister, Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy’s new Cabinet remained a closely-guarded secret on Tuesday, a day before the ministers were supposed to take their oaths.
Efforts both by the media and top government officials to know the contents of the “list” did not materialise as Mr Reddy took some extreme steps to keep the names or the size of the Cabinet a secret.
On Tuesday evening, he spoke to governor Mr E. S. L. Narasimhan who will administer the oath to the new ministers on Wednesday. The chief minister informed him that the “list” would be sent to him either at midnight or on Wednesday early morning to which the latter agreed.
As one official jokingly said, it would not be surprising if the chief minister used his personal laptop to send the list to the governor through email to avoid possible leakages. As per protocol, all new members of the Cabinet will have to be informed in advance to obtain their consent letters. It has been decided by the chief minister that he himself will inform them personally early on Wednesday, asking them to reach the Lake View guest house to finish the formalities.
The fate of several ministers of Mr K. Rosaiah’s Cabinet is hanging in balance as Mr Reddy has decided to do away with 50 per cent of them. After the exit of Mr Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy from the Congress, it was certain that Mr Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose, Mr Balineni Srinivasulu Reddy and Mr P. Ramachandra Reddy would not be accommodated.
It now appears that the return of Mr K. Janareddy and Mr J.C. Diwakar Reddy is certain. Similarly Mr Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy, brother of late chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, also appears to be certain.
