Kiss-miss leaves cops red-faced
Bengaluru’s cops are not used to being hugged and kissed, especially by those they are about to book for an offence. When 24-year-old Kazakh girl Deena Constantine did exactly that in the early hours of Thursday, it left sub-inspector Vishnuvardhan Pandit of Cubbon Park police station befuddled, embarrassed and even angrier than he was when he found that her friend Vikram, 25, was drunk and driving.
When hugs and kisses didn’t stop the cop from booking Vikram, the very drunk Ms Constantine tried to distract the SI by picking up a street dog and petting it — and nearly getting bitten by it. When that didn’t work either, she tried to bite the hand that wrote the challan, and even roughed up Pandit’s colleagues Ali and Vishwanath. Another SI Rama Murthy had to intervene to bring her under control.
Police records say the duo were repeat offenders. On the eve of Valentine’s Day, too, they had been caught and had roughed up cops near Queen’s Circle.
Additional Commissioner M.A. Saleem said the cops had videographed the entire episode and would act against the couple.
