Koodankulam plant D-Day yet to be fixed

Work on the loading of fuel (Uranium) is on at the plant but authorities at the KKNPP site remained tight lipped about the actual start of loading fuel, the anticipated time of energy generation from the plant as well as about site inspections that should clear the operation.

In the wake of renewed protests and the tension around the plant, the site director refused to provide specific information. However sources told DC that to attain the state of criticality after starting the chain reaction in the reactor would normally take two weeks after the cold run.

Others say it is also possible to start the hot run within three days of the start of the cold run. In all likelihood, if the process of loading fuel begins as scheduled in the next couple of days, power from the plant will be on the grid sometime in November.

No date has as yet been set on when the plant will go critical and when it will be able to supply all the 2,000 MW of power it can generate at full capacity.
