Lashkar orders big India strikes, intercepts show
In what looks like a direct fallout of the arrest of top Lashkar-e-Tayyaba militant Abu Jundal, Indian security agencies have over the past few days intercepted several wireless messages close to the Line of Control in the Kashmir Valley in which LeT commanders operating out of Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kash-mir are telling counterparts across the border to launch major terror strikes in the region.
Top intelligence sources privy to these developments said this was a diversionary tactic as Pakistan’s ISI wanted to deflect attention from Jundal’s startling revelations that caused huge embarrassment to the ISI and other Pakistani government agencies. Jundal’s disclosures have for the first time confirmed Pakistani “state support” for the 26/11 terror strike.
The Union home ministry, the state government and the security agencies have been informed about these developments. “Through a major terror strike at this stage, Pakistan can hit back at India saying terror is a homegrown problem, without any involvement from them,” a senior security official said.
Sources claim the wireless intercepts reveal one of the voices appears to be of Muzammil Bhatt, Lashkar’s operational commander. In one message Bhat is heard saying even Hafiz Saeed is keen on a big terror attack. The frequency of wireless messages appears to have increased sharply ever since Jundal began singing like a canary in police custody, much to Pakistan’s discomfort.
