Lawyer arrested for raping domestic help in Kolkata

A lawyer was arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a teenaged domestic help along with two other lawyers — couple who employed the girl at their residence in Phoolbagan — and a police officer. The victim’s mother was also arrested.
But the accused lawyer Lovely Chaddha and her husband Subrata Mishra are absconding. Sabyasachi Roy Chowdhury, one of the accused lawyers, was caught from Kankurgachhi on Wedensday afternoon by the Kolkata police’s detective department (DD) and Phoolbagan police.
He was taken to Lalbazar, the city police headquarters, for interrogation. The victim’s mother in early 40s was arrested during the day following her detention from Kestopur in North 24 Parganas on Tuesday night.
“Despite being a mother she showed negligence towards her daughter when she wanted to return to her to escape torture. She also maintained her relation with one of the accused and reposed her faith in the accused for her daughter’s custody perhaps due to her second marriage,” an officer revealed,
Meanwhile, the victim recorded her confidential statement at the Sealdah court. The accused cop whom the 17-year-old girl mentioned as only “Milan” in her complaint has been identified as the inspector posted as the additional officer in charge at a police station under the south suburban division, sources said.
He was one of the two officers found guilty by the West Bengal Human Rights Commission in arrest of Jadavpur University professor Ambikesh Mahatpatra. Mr Roy Chowdhury and the victim’s mother will be produced at the court on Thursday.
