Lawyers oppose evening courts
There is stiff resistance from the lawyers’ side to the new initiative of starting evening courts in the district and civil courts in Madhya Pradesh to tackle the problem of high pendency of cases. The Jabalpur high court has approved the concept of evening courts. They will function between 5.30 and 8.30 pm and take up summary trials under section 21 of CrPC and cases under the Negotiable Instruments Act and Electricity Act.
The advocates have opposed the latest move and even given a representation to the Chief Justice of MP HC demanding that the decision to set up the evening courts be reconsidered. The State Bar Council and various bar associations across the State have openly registered their protest.
The state Congress unit spokesman, J.P. Dhanopia said here on Friday that for the judicial process to run smoothly there has to be active participation of lawyers who have to work in close conjunction with their clients.
