LDF sub-panel on Solar terms
Thiruvananthapuram: The LDF on Monday decided to set up a sub committee to draft terms of reference in the solar judicial probe and intensify its stir for the resignation of CM Oommen Chandy.
The LDF state committee, which met here, also decided to mobilise thousands of LDF activists at each public function of Chandy to register their protest.
Earlier, only 50 to 100 persons used to take part in black flag demonstrations, but from now on, the LDF will go for mass mobilisation. “We will create a situation where the Chief Minister will face mass protests making it difficult for him to attend any function,’’ LDF convenor Vaikom Viswan said.
The LDF decided to hold mass public meetings in all district headquarters from September 1 to 8. The state committee will meet again on September 12 to review the agitation and chalk out the future course of action.
Viswan said the LDF leaders with the help of legal experts would finalise the Opposition stand on the terms of reference. “I will reply to the Home Minister’s letter on the terms of reference after completing discussions at our level.’’
The LDF would constitute a sub-committee to discuss the suggestions to be put forward to the government regarding the terms of reference. The state committee rejected the government offer for discussions on the issue. “There is nothing to be discussed with the Chief Minister on the issue. We are demanding action and not discussion,’’
Viswan said and added that the LDF would reject any probe that excluded Chandy and his office. The meeting hailed the secretariat siege as a historic agitation.
While denying the reports that there was confusion among the cadre over the abrupt end to the siege, the state committee endorsed the leadership’s decision to call off the strike.
“The secretariat siege had evoked massive support and continuing such an agitation indefinitely was not feasible. A large section of people and even the media which supported the stir would have turned against us had we decided to continue it indefinitely,’’ Viswan added.
State ratifies Hemachandran as head of Special Investigation Team

Kochi: In the wake of the recent adverse observations by the High Court, the state government has ratified ADGP A. Hemachandran's appointment as the head of the Special Investigation Team probing the solar case.
DGPK.S.Balasubramanian had appointed Hemachandran as the head of the SIT after the solar cases surfaced.
The state had come under fire from the High Court in the solar case and asked whether he was controlling the investigation behind the curtains. It also asked who was heading the investigation and directed the state to submit its reply before the court. The state issued the ratified order on Monday.
The decision will be submitted before Kerala High Court on Tuesday when two cases in the solar case appear before it. The court is considering the bail pleas of Tenny Joppan, former personal assistant of CM Oommen Chandy, as well as that of Shalu Menon.
