Leaders liable for Kerala hartal violence
The Human Rights Commission will, on its own, take a case against the hartal called by the Left Democratic Front on Saturday as it is a violation of human rights.
Justice J. B. Koshy, chairman, Kerala Sate Human Rights Commission, told Deccan Chronicle that the hartal was irrelevant since leaders had already voiced their strong disapproval of the diesel price hike, which would trigger prices of essential commodities.
There should be no force or coercion whatsoever while implementing the strike call. Those who called for hartal would be responsible for violence and liable to pay damages to aggrieved parties.
“Leaders should rethink on hartal. In Kerala, almost all working days are impaired by hartals and strikes. This affects the industry, students and daily wagers. We have lost more than 30 schooldays this year owing to hartals and strikes”, Justice Koshy said.
Changing examination dates would affect students badly. “It's an irony that while children of political leaders study abroad and outside Kerala, students from ordinary families are denied their rights”, Justice Koshy observed.
