Leaders pay tribute to departed scribe
Subrata Chattop-adhyay, the senior correspondent of The Asian Age, passed away on Sunday night. Subrata, who attended office on Sunday, was to leave for Siliguri with his wife Sunita by the Darjeeling Mail.
At Sealdah station, he suffered a massive heart attack. He was taken to NRS Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.
Subrata, 52, who had joined The Asian Age on July 1, 2004, was a very good political reporter who covered CPI(M) and other Left parties with aplomb. His special stories on CPI(M) reflected his deep knowledge of the subject.
A resident of Howrah, Subrata was the only child of his parents, who had died many years ago. An extremely affable and warm person, Subrata had many friends in and outside the journalistic fraternity. He was extremely popular in his neighbourhood as well as in the office. On Monday afternoon, his body was taken from the NRS Medical Hospital to The Asian Age, office where his colleagues paid him their last respects. From there, the body was taken to the Kolkata Press Club where large number of media friends and some important political personalities, including state commerce and industries minister Partha Chatterjee, state transport minister Madan Mitra and Leader of Opposition Surjya Kanta Mishra paid their homage to the departed soul.
