Leaders pay tribute to Nehru
The nation on Sunday paid rich tributes to the first Prime Minister of the country Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, on his 120th birth anniversary. The President Pratibha Patil and the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh paid floral tributes at the memorial of Nehru, Shanti Van, amidst chants of vedic hymns. Vice-President Hamid Ansari, congress
chief sonia Gandhi and Delhi chief minister Shiela Dixit were the other leaders who visited Shanti Van to pay their respects.In the central hall of parliament, PM Dr Singh, Ms Sonia Gandhi, speaker Ms Meira kumar and the leader of the opposition Mr L.K. Advani offered flowers to the portrait of Pandit Nehru. Elsewhere cultural programmes were conducted in the city by school children as part of the children’s day celebration. And even in the birth place of Nehru, Allahabad, leaders of the Uttar Pradesh congress visited the ancestral house of the first PM, Anand Bhavan and paid floral tributes.
