Left demands CM’s statement

The Opposition Left Front on Monday demanded chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s statement in the Assembly on the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) issue.

Raising the issue in the House, leader of Opposition Surjya Kanta Mishra said that since the chief minister had held a meeting with the GJM on June 16 and the session of the Assembly had commenced on June 15, it is the privilege of the House to know the content of the discussions.
Later Dr Mishra said, “Although the present situation in Darjeeling hills is not conducive for holding free, fair and peaceful elections, we hope that peace will be restored there and GTA elections will be held on time.”
