Left rebels to fight polls
The Left Coordination Committee, a platform of CPI(M) rebels who had left the party at different stages, will field candidates in the Assembly elections.
“We will be contesting elections,” said the committee’s convener T.P. Chandrasekharan, who is the leader of the CPM (Revolutionary), the outfit formed by the rebels at Onchiyam near Vadakara.
“The number of seats and the candidates will be decided soon,” he added.
“Many of our leaders are in Delhi to participate in the Parliament march,” Chandrasekharan said, adding, “A decision on seats will be taken after they return.’’Mr Chandrasekharan denied allegations that his party had a clandestine understanding with the UDF.
“We are fighting both the UDF and the LDF,” he said. “We don’t find any differences between both the fronts.”
The Left rebels have proved their strength in Onchiyam and Shoranur in the last elections to the local bodies. The CPM (Revolutionary) leader, Mr P. Jayarajan, is the president of the Onchiyam grama pamchayat, which was the stronghold of the CPI (M) for decades.
CPI(M) members who left the party at Onchiyam, Eramala, Mavoor and Atholi in Kozhikode district, and Shoranur in Palakkad district are the activists of the new outfit.
A national level committee has also been constituted after joining hands with the CPI-ML (Liberation), Lal Nishan party in Maharashtra and the CPI-M (Punjab) formed by the former Punjab state secretary Mangath Ram Pasla.
