Letter handiwork of Congress: BJP
The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday claimed the issue of 65 MPs writing to US President Barack Obama asking him not to lift the visa ban on Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi appears to be the handiwork of the “dirty tricks department” of the Congress and demanded a probe into the matter.
“The denial by some MPs of having written to Obama shows that this is a clear conspiracy of the dirty tricks department of the Congress. Some MPs have said their signatures were forged. There should be a thorough probe into the matter and the guilty should be booked,” BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said.
BJP MP Sudharshan Bhagat wrote a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar demanding a probe into the entire issue after some MPs said that they did not sign any such letter. CPI(M) Sitaram Yechury said that his signature on the letter seems to be a “cut and paste” job.
“External help to contain Shri Narendra Modi? These 65 MPs have failed to engage with him politically. Sponsored activists don’t trust Indian courts. Seeking external assistance to prop up their unjust cause. A third umpire in the USA for an Indian political fight?” BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said on Twitter.
Forty Lok Sabha and 25 Rajya Sabha MPs were reported to have written to the US President on the visa issue.

It’s a non-issue with us: Cong

New Delhi, July 24
The Congress on Wednesday sought to disapprove of the move by members of Parliament writing to US President Barack Obama seeking denial of visa to Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, saying the “nation is bigger than politics”.
“The nation is bigger than politics... We do not know what individuals are doing. The issue has not been discussed in any fora of the party nor that of Parliament. Nothing has been discussed. It is a non-issue (for us),” party spokesman Raj Babbar told reporters.
Mr Babbar, the sitting Lok Sabha member, said MPs could approach the Privileges Committee if they are alleging that their signatures were forged. The reaction of the party came at a time when a major controversy has arisen over the move, with some MPs denying having signed it.
