Letter war begins in UP Congress

The Congress in Uttar Pradesh may have lost the electoral battles but has kept up its fighting spirits.
The party is now locked in letter wars and party leaders are busy dashing off letters against each other to the party high command, highlighting the corruption in the UPCC office.

In a latest development, a senior party leader has written a letter to the party leadership, pointing towards the misuse of `42 lakhs given to the media department during the recent elections.
The leader has demanded that the details of the expenditure incurred during this period should be made public. “A handful of leaders in the media department have bungled funds and we do not want all the members to bear the blame,” the letter says.
According to sources, some members in the media cell apparently submitted hugely exaggerated bills during elections. One such bill related to the flower decoration done at the venue of the press conference during the manifesto release programme.
The cost of flowers used in the decoration was said to be around `7,000 but the bill submitted was over `50,000 which was marked “Stop Payment” and kept aside.
“Similarly, bills of lunches and dinners hosted for mediapersons have been submitted whereas the truth is that except for three dinners attended by Central ministers and leaders, no mediaperson was ever treated to lunches and dinners. All this should be verified by the party high command which had entrusted the media department to some ‘outsiders’ during the elections,” the leader said.
Mr Vivek Singh, chairman of the UPCC media cell, said that he was unaware of the bungling, if any, during elections since he was busy contesting his own election from Banda. “However, I wish the person who wrote a letter to the party high command had consulted me before doing so and we could have probed the matter here itself,” he said.
Through another letter to the party high command, AICC member Ashok Singh and over a dozen PCC members have drawn Congress chief Sonia Gandhi’s attention to the “high-handed” behaviour of Union ministers from UP.
The letter accuses some Central ministers of ignoring and neglecting party workers, including district presidents.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
