Live: Left has ruined Bengal for years, says Modi
Kolkata: A day after he 'sold' pizza and Lijjat pappad to women at a FICCI meet in Delhi, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed the Bharat Chamber of Commerce here on Vibrant Growth Model, this time to a predominantly male audience, mainly industrialists.
As usual, he put his audience at ease with a dash of humour taking a dig at West Bengal’s culture of bandhs. Ahead of his speech, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee flew out of Kolkata to Delhi to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to protest against what she called Bengal’s economic blockade.
In his initial remarks, Modi took on the Left saying the party has left Bengal’s economy in shambles. He also hauled the UPA government in Delhi over the coals.
Here are the highlights of Modi’s speech:
Bengal was such a vibrant state in many ways a few decades ago.
Since 18th century, Bengal was India’s intellectual capital.
Even in India’s freedom struggle, Bengal played a stellar role.
Media has a tendency to highlight certain aspects of my speech, but I will not say anything here and will reserve it for election days.
I shall not compare Gujarat and West Bengal.
While the Left ruined Bengal, the UPA government in Delhi is at a standstill.
The UPA government is biased against states ruled by non-UPA parties.
The UPA government must learn for Atal Bihari Vajpayee who never displayed any differences even while dealing with the Left in Bengal.
Key bills are kept pending by Governors appointed by Delhi.
The centre stymies all development works of non-Congress states.
This is a serious threat to the unity of India.
