LK: Cong in Assam most corrupt
Senior BJP leader L.K. Advani on Friday launched a blistering attack on the Congress here for being corrupt and said that if voted to power, the BJP would initiate impartial inquiry and ensure exemplary punishment to all “scamsters” who have allegedly “swallowed” several thousand crores of rupees in scams.
Speaking at the election rallies in Upper Assam districts, Mr Advani said, “Corruption has crossed all barriers in the country due to the misrule of the Manmohan Singh-led UPA government at the Centre. The same is the case with the Tarun Gogoi-led government in Assam.”
He added, “Since the Congress has ruled the state for two consecutive terms, its leaders have become arrogant. It is high time that people of the state ask them to go and allow others to rule.”
Slamming food inflation, the BJP leader said the large-scale corruption in the UPA government has led to unprecedented price rise which has hit the common man hard. “Remember, price rise is not due to economic mismanagement but due to corruption,” he said.
Citing examples of Gujarat and Bihar, he said development in these states could take place only because of a corruption-free government
Mr Advani warned the electorates to exercise their franchise carefully so that good candidates are voted to power.
“Voting power is not only to show respect to democracy but to punish a corrupt government,” said Mr Advani, adding that Assam would be developed into a model state through proper utilisation of natural resources if BJP is voted to power.
He also promised Scheduled Tribe status to communities who have been demanding the status and are recognised as ST in other parts of the country.
