LK: UPA governance deters investors

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former deputy prime minister L.K. Advani said here on Tuesday that the New Delhi style of governance deters investors, whereas in sharp contrast the Bhopal style attracts them.
Mr Advani was the chief guest at the valedictory session of the Global Investors’ Summit at Indore on Tuesday. He was enthused by the large turnout of investors, record submission of 890 proposals and signing of MoUs worth `3,56,500 crore during the three-day summit.
With the implementation of these MoUs, direct employment potential for 6,35,727 persons and indirect employment for 14,53,314 persons would be created, the chief minister told mediapersons after the summit ended.
Addressing the valedictory session, the BJP leader elaborated the “sharp contrast between New Delhi and Bhopal” and said looking at successive governments from Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru to the present UPA government at the Centre led by Dr Manmohan Singh, he had no hesitation in saying that he has never been more disappointed. Rajiv Gandhi had won a record majority but ended up losing office due to the Bofors scam, “which pales into insignificance when compared to the size of scams getting exposed today”, he said.
On the Cabinet reshuffle, he said the objective should be to make a better government and this exercise should not have been used for the coming polls by promoting those who are under cloud.
Mr Advani praised state chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for announcing that he would take full responsibility of speedy growth of industries and assuring investors that there will be no corruption, favouritism or irregularity in clearing projects. He took the names of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi and Mr Chouhan and said they are not becoming bigger than the party (BJP) but the fact is the party is proud of their good work.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
