LoC firing in Kargil, Drass area after 14 yrs
Over 14 years after the guns fell silent in Drass and Kargil, the facing armies reportedly exchanged fire, though briefly and without any casualties, in that region. There was, however, no official word from the Army or from Islamabad.
The Army confirmed a massive exchange of fire with machineguns, mortars and rockets along the LoC in Poonch. These clashes have virtually made the Poonch-Rawlakote strip a potential powder keg waiting to go off.
While the Army was silent on the two sides exchanging fire in Drass or Kargil, it said Indian troops retaliated strongly against the Pakistanis in Poonch’s Balakote area on Thursday. The exchange continued through the night, officials said Friday.
