Lokayukta issues notice to CM's son
Kerala Lok Ayukta has issued an urgent notice to Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan's son to appear before it on May 9 regarding an opposition petition levelling 11 charges against him, including bribery.
Upa Lokayukta G Sasidharan issued the notice to V.A. Arun Kumar, an officer in the state-run Institute of Human Resources Development in Engineering, on a petition filed by opposition Congress leader Oommen Chandy who wanted his complaint to be taken up on a priority basis.
In his petition Chandy had alleged that Kumar tried to sabotage a CBI probe into operations of other-state lotteries, took bribe from sandalwood factory owners and got enrolled for a PhD with a bogus experience certificate.
Lokayukta had last month issued notices to Kumar and Chandy to appear before it on June 2.
Chandy had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister in March levelling the charges against his son following which Achuthanandan had forwarded it to the Home Department for necessary action.
The opposition also wanted an inquiry into foreign trips made by Kumar in his official capacity without getting proper permission from authorities concerned.
