Lokeshwar elected new deputy speaker of Manipur Assembly

Th Lokeswar of the Congress Party was on Friday elected deputy speaker of the Manipur legislative Assembly.

Mr Lokeswar was the only candidate who filed nomination papers for the post on Thursday, officials said.

The post of the deputy speaker has been lying vacant for more than 10 months following the resignation of Shyam Kumar of the Manipur People’s Party.

After the election, Mr Lokeswar was escorted to the chair of the deputy speaker by chief minister O. Ibobi Singh and opposition leader Radhabinod Koijam of the Nationalist Congress Party.
