‘Lokpal will help farmers of Vidarbha’
One of the key members of Team Anna, Mr Arvind Kejriwal, has said that the Jan Lokpal will benefit distressed farmers from the Vidarbha region. Speaking after attending a meeting in Amravati, Mr Kejriwal said that the huge amount of money sanctioned by the government did not reach the deserving farmers because of the corruption that is rampant in the system.
“The government has sanctioned huge amounts to curb suicides in Vidarbha. But despite this, the money did not reach the farmers who actually needed it, and this was just because of the corruption,” Mr Kejriwal said after attending the meeting organised by the People for India Forum on Sunday evening.
Speaking about the crisis faced by cotton growers from the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, where thousands of distressed farmers committed suicide in the last few years, Mr Kejriwal said that these farmers here are not getting the proper price for their cotton; Mr Kejriwal claimed that the prices are deliberately being kept low.
