Lottery winner dies mysteriously
The mysterious death of a youth from Nagapattinam, who had won Rs 1.10 crore in a lottery in Malaysia, has led his mother to believe that he might have been killed for the prize money.
Vijayaraghavan, 28 of Valluvar Nagar in Thiruppoondi near Nagapattinam had been working as an AC mechanic in a private company in Malaysia since October 2008.
On August 5, he called up his mother Ms Saroja and informed her that he had won Rs 1.10 crore in a lottery.
He also informed her that he was coming home on August 9. However, the widow received a call from her son’s friend Mr Prabakaran from Malaysia the same night informing her of her son’s death.
Mr Prabakaran, a native of Devakottai, told Ms Saroja that Vijayaraghavan had visited his home in Malaysia on that fateful day.
He said that his wife had offered Vijayaraghavan a glass of juice and blood started oozing from his nose after drinking it. Vijayaraghavan was rushed to hospital where he died, claimed Mr Prabakaran.
However, half an hour later Mr Prabakaran again rang up Ms Saroja and this time claimed that her son had died in a road accident.
In a petition to Collector T. Munusamy on Wednesday, Ms Saroja stated that her son might have been murdered for the prize money.
She also requested the collector to arrange to bring his body back to India.“The district administration, through the state government, will take all measures required to bring his body back to India” Collector T. Munusamy told Deccan Chronicle.
