Lucknow zoo to get `20cr for makeover

The Lucknow zoo is all set for a complete makeover with the state government having sanctioned a sum of `20 crores for the purpose.
A detailed modernisation plan has been prepared for the zoo, which is known as the Prince of Wales Zoological Gardens and is a major tourist attraction in the state capital.
According to a zoo official, the government plans to set up 10 food courts inside the premises that is spread across 71.6 acres, toilets and resting shades will also be built across the zoo to enable visitors to take rest.
The construction work at an estimated cost of `24.48 crores will be undertaken by the Uttar Pradesh Rajkiya Nirman Nigam.
The zoo authorities have decided to purchase battery-operated vehicles for senior citizens, children and differently-abled visitors.
The zoo plans to add a j8picture gallery to the nature interpretation centre and upgrade facilities at the serpentarium and the fish aquarium.
A high-grade security system and a disaster control mechanism will also be installed at the zoo which includes about 150 CCTV cameras.
Modifications of the enclosures in order to improve the look and feel of the place have also been incorporated in the detailed project report.
An electronic ticket machine, water coolers, extra number of benches, staff quarters will be provided under the modernisation plan and the zoo hospital will also be given new equipments and a new toy train will be brought to replace the old one.
The Lucknow zoo has now introduced from Friday, the concept of ‘combo’ tickets which will give a ten per cent discount to the buyer.
The combo ticket will allow the visitor to enter nocturnal house, fish house, nature interpretation centre and board a toy train. A combo ticket of `70 will cost about `59 after the discount.
