Maderna wife, suspect calls under CBI scanner
CBI officials, probing the Bhanwari Devi case, are now concentrating their probe on three calls between Leela Maderna, wife of former Rajasthan minister Mahipal Maderna, and Sahiram Bishnoi, prime suspect in the case, on September 3. Sources said Leela Maderna reportedly spoke to Sahiram (mobile no. 9828286224) thrice on September 3, two days after the 36-year-old auxiliary nurse-cum-folk singer went missing.
Sources said each call lasted at least half-an-hour. “The agency officials are scrutinising conversation details of Leela Maderna and Sahiram. They may call some family members of Maderna for questioning in this regard,” sources said.
The agency officials on Monday questioned Leela Maderna in the presence of Sahiram at the agency’s office in Jodhpur in this connection. She was asked specific questions related to her conversations with Sahiram on September 3, sources said. If required, she may be called for questioning again, sources added.
“She is giving contradictory statements. The agency officials on Monday recorder her statement which is being further verified,” sources said.
The agency officials are also planning to make significant arrests in the case in a day or two. The agency has already arrested Mahipal Maderna in connection with the case.
If required, the CBI officials may conduct a lie-detector test on Leela.
The agency will first need to seek her consent as legal provisions entail that such a test can not be conducted without her permission.
Meanwhile, CBI officials recently collected DNA samples from family members of Bhanwari for further testing, sources said.
