Magistrate to probe plot to kill CWG officials

Tis Hazari court chief metropolitan magistrate (CMM) Vinod Yadav on Friday decided to conduct its own probe into the allegations of two undertrials, one serving a life sentence and another facing trial in a murder case, that they were allegedly being pressurised by the Tihar Jail officials to kill sacked officials of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee, who are facing corruption charges.

As the police failed to complete the probe in stipulated time, the CMM said, “The court itself will now enquire into it.” The CMM refused to give more time to the police and said it was taking over the probe due to seriousness of the matter.
“It is a fact that a knife has been recovered from the jail and the matter needs to be taken with seriousness,” the CMM said after perusing the interim report submitted by the Hari Nagar police station into the sensational claim made by two inmates Nishant and Amit on December 21. The CMM also transferred the case to the court of additional chief metropolitan magistrate Sunil Chaudhary. Three former CWG organising committee officials T.S. Darbari, M. Jayachandran and Sanjay Mahendroo are in judicial custody in Tihar Jail.
The police in its probe report said, “CCTV footage of all 32 cameras installed at central jail number 4 at Tihar is yet to be collected from jail authorities and some staff of Delhi jail and Tamil Nadu special police is yet to be examined,” which could not satisfy the court.
As counsel for the undertrials sought security for the duo, pleading that they face threat from jail authorities.
Instead of issuing any separate directions for their security, CMM Yadav, however, said, “Jail officials will not dare touch them after so much of media coverage.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
