Maha best of 5 marking to continue: SC
Nearly 16 lakh students of Maharashtra seeking admission in Class 11 got major relief from the Supreme Court with it allowing the state to continue with the “best-of-five” marking scheme in Class 10 as an interim measure.
The permission though was interim, the Supreme Court said that the “best-of-five” pattern would also apply to the students of ICSE if they seek admission in the schools or junior colleges affiliated to the Maharashtra state education board (MSEB).
While allowing continuation of the “best-of-five” marking scheme, a bench of Justices V.S. Sirpurkar and Cyriac Juseph stayed the Bombay high court verdict, striking down the scheme on the ground that it was discriminatory to the students of other boards, particularly those from ICSE board seeking admission in MSEB schools and junior colleges. The only exception in the scheme was made by the court regarding those students of ICSE who had not studied the majority of the core subjects, English, maths, Hindi, social science, science or any regional language, but studied non-core subjects like pottery, home science etc.
