In Maha drought, the show goes on
The film Chennai Express, starring actors Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, has run into a controversy for using water from a dam in drought-hit Satara district of Maharashtra.
Maharashtra relief and rehabilitation minister Patangrao Kadam confirmed that the state would be looking into the matter. While speaking to mediapersons on the premises of Vidhan Bhavan, Mr Kadam said, “We will check on what grounds the permission to use water was granted.” The shoot of the film was on in Satara district of western Maharashtra, which is facing an acute drought. The local people had alleged that a large quantity of water was used from Dhom dam for the shoot. A temporary garden was set up for the shoot and was maintained with water from the dam.
The relief and rehabilitation minister was also questioned by the media for wasting hundred litres of water at his helipad at Aurangabad.
Mr Kadam clarified that he was unaware that the water used for his helipad could be used for drinking purposes. He had recently gone to Aurangabad to convince BJP leader Gopinath Munde to end his hungerstrike and the water was used to ensure that the dust did not rise when the helicopter landed.
