Maha gov suspends info chief
In a move that was long overdue, Maharashtra governor K. Sankaranarayanan on Thursday suspended state information commissioner Ramanand Tiwari for his alleged involvement in the Adarsh Society scam.
“The governor invoked powers conferred upon him under Section 17(2) of the Right to Information Act 2005 and placed Mr Tiwari under suspension. The order will come in force with immediate effect,” said the spokesperson from Raj Bhavan.
“The order passed by the governor has further prohibited Mr Tiwari from attending the office, pending conclusion of the inquiry or until further orders to be passed in the matter,” the spokesperson added.
On Tuesday, Mr Sankaranarayanan had made a reference to the Supreme Court to conduct an inquiry into the alleged misconduct of Mr Tiwari under Section 17(1) of the RTI Act.

Jan. 20: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) may seek more time to register a first information report in the Adarsh Housing Society scam, senior CBI officials said on Thursday. The Bombay high court had on Tuesday given the agency a two-week deadline to decide whether it will register an FIR in the matter.
When asked whether the agency will comply with the deadline and register an FIR in the matter, CBI deputy inspector-general, Pravin Salunkhe said, “As we have not concluded our investigations, no decision has been taken on registering an FIR in the case.”
