Maha govt discovers key Adarsh papers are missing
The Central Bureau of Investigation’s probe into the Adarsh Housing Society scam has hit yet another roadblock: important documents regarding the controversial project are missing from the Maharashtra government’s offices. The state government found out that the documents were missing only after the CBI asked for them.
The state urban development department was supposed to submit the documents related to Adarsh Society to the CBI. The investigating agency was hoping to make quick headway in its probe following its appeal to Maharashtra chief secretary J.P. Dange.
According to CBI sources, the urban development department was supposed to submit a set of 10 files earlier this month. “However, these files were never submitted and we were told by the department that four documents were missing from the files,” said CBI joint director Rishiraj Singh.
Gurudutt Bajpe, a secretary with the urban development department, filed a complaint with the Marine Drive police on Friday night. “We have registered a complaint against unknown persons under Sections 204 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code. We will start questioning people from Monday. Other inquiries are underway,” said ACP (Colaba division) Iqbal Sheikh. CBI sources said the missing documents contained notes made by senior government officials regarding the granting of FSI, environmental norms and other aspects for project clearance.
