Maha Opp ups ante against CM
Opposition parties in Maharashtra have just upped their ante against the Ashok Chavan government. Delegations of the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance and the Republican Left Democratic Front met the governor of Maharashtra separately on Monday and demanded that the state government be dismissed.
A 12-member delegation of the BJP and Shiv Sena on Monday met governor K. Sankaranarayanan at the Raj Bhavan and demanded dismissal of the state government. The delegation, led by Leader of the Opposition Eknath Khadse, alleged that the ministers and officials in the state government were involved in blatant corruption and scandals and that therefore, the government should be dismissed forthwith. Mr Khadse also tendered a list of 33 issues in which, he claimed, ministers of both the Congress and the NCP have acted most suspiciously. The delegation consisted of Sena veteran in the Lower House of the state Legislative Assembly Subhash Desai, BJP state president Sudhir Mungantiwar and many other prominent leaders of the saffron combine from either House of the state Assembly. The leaders insisted there could be no doubt about the direct involvement of the chief minister, since the MMRDA had given its sanction to the Adarsh Housing Society, and the MMRDA works directly under the CM.
In its letter to the governor, the delegation claimed that the democratic front government, which has been in power since 1999, has been exposed time and again for its involvement in several scams.

Nov. 1: After a three-day visit to Delhi, following the Adarsh Housing Society scam, Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan on Monday resumed work at his office in Mantralaya. He held meetings with the state home minister and finance minister later in the day.
The CM also made it a point to speak to the media in an unofficial meeting, where he refused to divulge much information about what happened during his stay in the capital.
Mr Chavan said that he will be going back to Delhi for the All-India Congress Committee meet on Tuesday. He said, “There won’t be any Cabinet meeting this week because of Diwali and the same will be held on November 10.”
