Mahanta accuses Gogoi of conspiracy
Former Assam chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta here on Wednesday dared Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi to make public the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report on `1000 crore North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council scam.
In reference to the reports published by this newspaper on special audit report of N.C. Hills, Mr Mahanta said, “In order to divert the attention from the N.C. Hills scam in which present government has been indicted for swindling government fund, Mr Gogoi was trying to rake up divisive issue of Bodoland.”
He said, “The Comptroller and Auditor General findings which were kept under carpet has already come out. Its simply the tips of an iceberg, corruption has been rampant in other departments also.”
Pointing out that the Bodoland Peoples Front, having alliance with ruling Congress government, has been provoked to step up their demand for separate Bodoland state, Mr Mahanta accused massive corruption in paying compensation for land acquired and number of trees being cut for construction of East-West corridor road project in Assam.

Tainted officer sent to 6-day police custody

Nov. 24: Tainted senior IAS officer, Ravi Inder Singh, arrested by the special cell late on Tuesday night for allegedly leaking sensitive information for personal gains, was remanded to six-day police custody by special judge Sangeeta Dhingra Sehgal.
Seeking 10-day custodial interrogation of the officer, public prosecutor Rajeev Mohan told the court that “The IAS officer posted as a director in the Union home ministry, allegedly used to stay at a guest house instead of living in the official accommodation. The rent of the house was `50,000 per month which was paid by a private firm, Temptation Food Pvt. Ltd, whose chairman-cum-managing director was his associate, Vineet Kumar, an accused in the case also.”
