Maj. Unni’s uncle tries to end life

Disturbed over the “injustice” meted out to the families of armed forces who died in 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, the 55-year-old uncle of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, who was also killed in the attack, attempted self-immolation in front of Parliament House on Thursday evening.
The victim, identified as K. Mohanan, a native of Kozhikode in Kerala, poured petrol over himself outside Gate No. 4 of Parliament House near Vijay Chowk and set himself on fire. The incident happened at around 6 pm and some journalists, who were coming out of the House after attending a press briefing, saw him and managed to douse the flames and informed the police.
The cops took him to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital where he was admitted with 98 per cent burn injuries and is reported to be in a critical state. He had come to Delhi on January 30. The police has recovered the kerosene bottle, a gas lighter and a notepad from the spot. In a note, Mr Mohanan has stated that he was sad at the way the families of slain soldiers of Mumbai attacks were treated by the government, “The government has not done justice with my family. Sandeep died fighting for his country and instead of hanging Kasab, the issue is being politicised,” his note, written in Malayalam, read.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
