Major train accident averted in Punjab
A major mishap was on Tuesday averted when a driver of a speeding train slammed brakes after being alerted that a hook of a bogey had broken detaching the engine and two compartments with rest of the train near here. The Kanyakumari-bound Himsagar Express coming from Jammu was travelling at a speed of over 100 kmph when a passenger pulled the chain on noticing that other bogies had got detached from the engine. The alert driver immediately brought the train to a halt near Lehragaga station, 30 kms from here, railway officials said.
The train proceeded only after the fault was repaired. The railways ruled out any sabotage and said the incident occurred due to a technical fault. Meanwhile, an inquiry has been ordered into the matter, they said.
