Majority is ours, says Anam Ramanarayana Reddy
Nellore: Finance minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy has claimed that their party backed candidates have bagged 90 panchayats out of 203 sarpanches elected unopposed in the district.
He said that majority of those won unanimously in the state had the support of Congress.
Speaking to media persons at his residence here on Thursday, he took pot shots against YSR Congress and Telugu Desam for their promise to trounce Congress in panchayat elections.
“Both the parties failed to measure up to the ruling party. They have been asking us whether we are ready to take the panchayat elections as referendum for the party. People have given suitable reply to their question by endorsing the policies of the ruling party through unanimous election of Congress-backed candidates,” the finance minister said.
He said that Congress has proved its mettle in the election without party symbol and the party performance will improve manifolds in the ensuing civic body elections which are being held with party symbols.
Central government would release Rs 1,400 crores under 13th Finance funds for panchayats in the state once the elected bodies assume office.
Although the funds were earmarked for the state long ago, absence of the bodies led the Union government to hold back the release of funds. He said that the state government would also release its share apart from funds pertaining to National Rural Employment Generation Scheme soon.
Reacting to a question, he said that legal tangles related to Backward Class reservation led to the delay in holding panchayat elections.
