Mamata: 2 years inadequate to evaluate new government
On the eve of the second anniversary of her government, Ms Mamata Banerjee said that two years were not enough to judge the achievements of the government. The state government completes two years in office on Monday.
Posting her remarks on Facebook, Ms Banerjee said, “Two years is not enough time to evaluate a new government. It had on its head the legacies of a long 34-year regime, a huge debt burden of more than `2,00,000 crores, and a completely crippled and demoralised government machinery.”
“While the country registered a growth in GDP by 4.96 per cent, agriculture 1.79 per cent, industry 3.12 per cent and services 6.59 per cent; Bengal recorded a 7.6 per cent, 2.56 per cent, 6.24 per cent and 9.48 per cent growth in the sectors, respectively,” Ms Banerjee claimed.
The chief minister also claimed that the revenue collection during 2012-13 exceeded the previous financial year’s figure by nearly 30 per cent.
“Our revenue collection of `32,000 crores during 2012-13 exceeded that of the previous financial year by nearly 30 per cent, which is a record,” Ms Banerjee added.
Reiterating her allegation against the Centre, Ms Banerjee said: “We could have ploughed back the entire money for the development work, but the Central government deducted `26,000 crores directly from our accounts for repayment of debts of the previous Left Front government.
