Mamata brings up price rise
In a politically savvy move, Trinamul Congress leader and railway minister Mamata Banerjee is reported to have expressed her concern over the recent hike in petrol prices during a meeting of the Cabinet committee
on political affairs which met on Thursday under chairmanship of Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee.
Soon after the hike, Ms Banerjee had shot off a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh voicing concern about the increase in prices which was announced on Saturday night.
While Ms Banerjee’s Trinamul Congress was a party to the government’s decision to decontrol petrol prices — it has led to the regular raise in fuel prices — it has been distancing itself from this decision now by saying that it was not informed about last week’s hike.
