Mamata builds federal case
Desperate to take forward her call for a federal front, West Bengal chief minister and Trinamul Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee has initiated talks with the leaders of three key regional parties — Janata Dal (United), Biju Janata Dal and Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik).
On Wednesday, Ms Banerjee spoke to JD(U) leader and Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar and BJD chief and Orissa CM Naveen Patnaik seeking their support.
The Trinamul Congress chief revealed this after meeting JD(U) general secretary K.C. Tyagi at Writers’ Buildings here.
“I talked to Nitish Kumar, who has agreed with us on the federal front and described that the move will be good for the states and the nation if we can come together to build the platform,” she said.
Ms Banerjee even quoted Mr Kumar as saying, “We will be happy if we can do it with the objective of the common cause of the people.”

Lost letter: Lt. Gen. may face action
Age Correspondent
New Delhi, June 12
A top secret letter of the Army that went missing two years ago and could have led to compromising of sensitive operational information of deployment near the border with China will now lead to either disciplinary or administrative action against a few Army personnel, which could include administrative action against a lieutenant-general.
This is expected to take place after an Army CoI indicted a few Army officers and submitted its report to the Army top brass towards the end of 2012. The letter has still not been located.
