Mamata plans a ‘guard’ brigade

Trinamul Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Saturday called for the building of a “Maa Mati Manush Brigade” comprising students to counter the harmad (musclemen) vahini of the CPI(M) and to help out people in distress.

“Build a Maa Mati Manush Brigade, a brigade for the common people to guard the common people, not to torture them. The purpose of this brigade will be neither to extort money from anyone nor to threat anyone,” she told students at the foundation day programme of the Trinamul Congress Chhatra Parishad on Saturday.
Ms Banerjee added, “I will ask no other but the student community to shoulder the responsibility of forming this brigade. I want college students to come forward, treat it as a pilot project and form each brigade with five to six members on an experimental basis.”
