Mamata, Sonia, discuss West Bengal violence
With just a few months left for the West Bengal Assembly elections, Trinamul Congress chief and railway minister Mamata Banerjee met UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Thursday to discuss not only the political situation in the state, but also the violence allegedly unleashed by the Left cadres in the state.
After the half-an-hour long meeting, Ms Banerjee told reporters that she discussed “all political issues, including the state terror perpetrated by the CPI-M.” She further said, “I have very good personal relations with her for a very long time.”. However, according to party sources, the Trinamul chief also discussed with Ms Gandhi the issue of a Trinamul-Congress alliance for the coming Assembly polls.
The alliance between the two parties will be crucial especially for the Trinamul as it already appears to be smelling victory as the hustings next year and so the ouster of the Left which has ruled the state for over three decades.
