Mamata upset over hike in petrol price
Centre’s decision to increase the prices of petroleum products has upset the second largest UPA partner Trinamul Congress. As soon as news about the impending price hike reached Kolkata, party chairperson and chief minister Mamata Banerjee went into a huddle with her senior colleagues. She asked Union minister of state for shipping and party general secretary Mukul Roy to convey her strong displeasure to the Centre.
Sources said that Ms Banerjee has called an urgent meeting of Trinamul Congress parliamentary committee on Friday afternoon.
“Didi is very angry. She told us that the decision to increase the petroleum prices had been taken by keeping her in the dark. The Congress cannot take us for granted like this,” an MP considered close to Ms Banerjee revealed.

Lucknow, Nov. 3
With hundreds of ready-to-deliver mothers wanting to bring their babies into this world on the magical date 11.11.11, Lucknow could witness the maximum number of deliveries on this date.
Nursing homes have been booked and doctors are being persuaded to “ensure that the babies are born on November 11”.
“Mothers who are scheduled to deliver in mid-November are forcing us to bring in the babies on November 11. Some are even ready to opt for a caesarian baby to ensure the 11.11.11 birth. It seems rather queer but the rage is catching on in a big way,” says Dr Priyamvada Shukla, a gynecologist.Broadcasters’ body slams PCI chairman

Broadcasters’ body slams PCI chairman
Age Correspondent
New Delhi, Nov. 3
The News Broadcasters Association has taken strong objection to the recent comments reportedly made by the new Press Council of India chairman Markandeya Katju and asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to restrain him. The broadcasters body had stated that it is opposed to setting up a “media council” to regulate electronic media.
“We understand from statements made by Justice (Retd.) Katju that he has written to you on the subject of the formation of a ‘Media Council’, which suggestion you are considering,” the NBA said in its letter to Dr Singh. “We strongly oppose this move by the chairman, PCI,” the NBA said.
“We earnestly request you to intervene and request the chairman, PCI, to engage himself constructively with print media matters, which is the mandate he has under the Press Council Act and not to exceed his remit and to exercise restraint on commenting upon areas which are outside his jurisdiction,” it said.
