Man allegedly beaten to death by cops, protest by local people

A middle-aged man was today allegedly beaten to death by policemen at Rambagh area in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district that sparked off an spontaneous protest by the local people, police said.

When the news of the death of Md. Narsuddin reportedly due to beating by the policemen spread, a large number of local people surrounded four policemen and burnt their two motorcycles and a jeep, the police said. The situation was stated to be tense but under control, they said.

Senior civil and police officials have rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation even as additional forces have been deployed as a precautionary measure, the sources said.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajesh Kumar said that the reason of Narsuddin's death was being investigated.
