Man, daughter do Plus-2
Proving that age is no bar when it comes to studying, 39-year-old road worker Marimuthu of Vettangudi village near Sirkazhi is taking the Plus-2 examination that began Thursday with 17-year-old daughter Suba Sridevi.
The father of two daughters and two sons could not pursue studies after class 9 due to family reasons and became a road worker in 1997. But now he has resolved to become a grad.
Mr Marimuthu first drew media attention when he took the SSLC examination in 2010 as a private candidate with Suba Sridevi, 15, a regular student at Sabanayaga Mudaliar Hindu Higher Secondary School.
While the daughter got through scoring 447 of 500 marks, Mr Marimuthu failed in a subject. He, however, cleared the paper in the subsequent supplementary examination the same year and secured a total of 195 marks.
Suba Sridevi’s exam centre is Hemalatha Girls Higher Secondary School, Sirkazhi, and Mr Marimuthu’s St Paul’s Girls Higher Secondary School, Mayiladuthurai.
The dad expressed confidence he would pass the Plus-2 exam with flying colours. “Age is not a deterrent. I have worked hard and prepared well. Unlike the SSLC exam, I will get through Plus-2 in my first attempt itself,” he said.
