Man fasts atop coconut palm to support Hazare
Expressing support to Anna Hazare's anti-corruption movement in a unique way, a 60-year-old man has launched a 'relay' fast here atop a coconut palm tree.
The palm-top campaign launched by Rajendran of Veloor near elicited instant response from fellow-villagers, who joined him by sitting near the tree.
Rajendran is sitting on a platform set up like a tree-top cottage on a 24-feet tall coconut tree in a palm grove in the village. He climbs the tree at eight am and descends by the evening.
"I will continue my protest till Annaji ends his fast or the government accepts the demand for a strong Lokpal law to root out corruption which is spreading like cancer," Rajendran said.
Rajendran recently floated an organisation called ‘Navabharath Swatnatra Ghosham’ as a platform for his social activism.
