Man shoots girlfriend, self

A newly married man shot at his girlfriend on Thursday before firing at himself at Makum in Tinsukia district, police said.

Sanjeev Chakraborty, who got married a few months ago, had a heated exchange with his Mrigaya Dey in Makum College premises before he fired at her. Dey had gone to college to appear for her first year degree examination, police said.

Chakraborty then shot at himself from his unlicensed 7.65 US made pistol.

The relation between Chakraborty, a businessman, and the girl had of late soured, police said after preliminary investigation.

Both are admitted to Assam Medical College Hospital in Dibrugarh in a critical condition.
